Mount Norikura

Japan, Iwaidani, Nyukawa-cho, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture 506-2254

Mount Norikura, located at the southern end of Japan’s Northern Alps (Hida Mountains), straddles Gifu Prefecture’s Takayama and Matsumoto City in Nagano Prefecture. Featuring 23 peaks with the highest point being Kengamine at 3,026 meters, along with seven lakes and eight plateaus, it forms a sweeping alpine landscape. From Mount Norikura, you can gaze upon the lofty landscapes of Yari-dake and the Hotaka Mountain Range. At the summit of the Norikura Skyline (Tsubakurodaira, 2,702 meters), a roughly 4-hectare alpine flower field blooms in summer, adorned with vibrant colors of white, yellow, pink, and more. Designated as a Special Protection Area within a national park, Mount Norikura is a sanctuary for precious flora and fauna, including the Special Natural Monument, the rock ptarmigan, and a variety of alpine plants. Please follow mountain safety rules and help preserve Norikura’s natural beauty. Note: Road access is currently closed during winter.
