Higashiyama Promenade

Climbing up Yasukawa Street brings you to the serene and atmospheric area known as Higashiyama Teramachi (Eastern Temple District). It is said that when feudal lord Nagachika Kanamori designed the castle town, he established and relocated temples and shrines to a small, elevated ridge on the eastern side of town. These historic temples and shrines, many designated as cultural properties by both the prefecture and the city, stand in reverent succession.
