Jizō-ji Temple

Japan, 43-1 Okusa Higashiyashiki, Chita City, Aichi Prefecture 478-0035

Jizō-ji Temple, located in Ōgusa, Chita City, was founded during the Kamakura period. Affectionately known as “Ōgusa no Ojizō-san” (Ojizō-sama of Ōgusa), the temple has long been cherished by the local community. In front of the main hall remains a well from which the Enmei Mizukake Jizō (Life-Prolonging Water-Pouring Jizō) was once retrieved. According to legend, a woman named Otake pulled the Jizō statue out of the well and continued washing it. Miraculously, her once-blind eyes began to see again. Since then, this Jizō is believed to heal eye diseases and other illnesses. The temple becomes especially lively during the fair days held on the 23rd and 24th of February and August.
