Oguri Family Residence (Mansan Shoten (MAN-SUN)

The Oguri Family Residence, located on the west bank of the Handa Canal, is a group of houses built from the end of the Edo period to the early Showa period, and was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2022. The Oguri family began in the Edo period and, as Manzo Shoten, mainly produced sake in the early days. From the early Meiji period onwards, the family developed into a fertilizer merchant and shipping company, and later began brewing miso and soy sauce. In recent years, the family has been home to one of Japan's oldest and largest white mokko rose trees, which is over 150 years old, and the Manzo White Mokko Rose Festival is held every year from mid-April to the end of April, attracting many visitors. Various initiatives are also being carried out using parts of the residence, and the space that was used as an office during the business period is now operated by the Handa City Tourism Association as a base for urban development in the Handa Canal area, and brewing products is sold in the area.
